[Baseball] #10 Drovers Drop Regular Season Finale on Senior Day
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the No. 10 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (32-12, 17-7 SAC) suffered a tough 5-1 loss against Texas Wesleyan University (32-17, 14-9 SAC) in the regular season finale. The Drovers are now 15-13 against the Rams all-time, a series that dates back to April 22, 2008. Additionally, USAO has now won 8 of the last 11 matchups between the conference foes. The first seven innings of the series finale was an excellent pitcher's dual, but the Rams were able to add on several late runs to claim the victory.Science & Arts took the first lead of the game with one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and held onto the lead until the Rams tied the score with one run in the top of the seventh inning.Texas Wesleyan rallied to score four insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning, prior to holding the Drovers scoreless in the final two innings. Drew Shaver (JR/Sante Fe, TX) got the start on the mound for USAO and was nearly unhittable. Shaver pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, and he struck out 11 batters.Hagen Earls (JR/Summerfield, OK) suffered the loss after allowing two earned runs on three hits. Earls struck out two batters in 2.0 innings of work.Seven different Drovers recorded hits in the game. Joey Pena (SR/Mustang, OK) went 1-3 with a triple, and Peyton McDowall (JR/Cibolo, TX) finished 1-4 with a run batted in. Gage Gaunt (SO/Clinton, OK) concluded 1-4 with a double and a walk. Brock Henderson (JR/Chickasha, OK), Jake Womack (SR/Chickasha, OK), Luke Lewis (SO/Ft. Cobb, OK), and Gabriel Arroyo (SO/Arecibo, Puerto Rico) each singled. WHAT'S NEXT?The Drovers will open postseason play on Friday, May 6 as they host the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. USAO enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
