[Baseball] #24 Bruins Take Down #14 Drovers in Extras

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Sunday afternoon, the No. 14 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-3, 0-0 SAC) closed their weekend series with a tough 4-2 extra inning loss against No. 24 ranked Bellevue University (5-3, 0-0 NSAC).  After three scoreless innings to begin the day, the Bruins took the first lead of the game as they pushed across one run in the top of the fourth inning. The Drovers were able to strike for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Jake Womack (SR/Chickasha, OK) and Peyton McDowall (JR/Cibolo, TX) each crossed the plate.In the top of the ninth inning, Bellevue was able to rally with two outs and tie the game at 2-2, forcing extra innings. The Bruins were able to score a pair of runs in the top of the 10th inning, prior to holding the Drovers scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.As a team, the Drovers produced seven hits, while the Bruins strung together 12. Additionally, Science & Arts struggled mightily with runners on base, leaving 12 baserunners stranded in the loss.Brock Henderson (JR/Chickasha, OK) delivered a terrific offensive performance, going 4-4 with a walk. Luis Pelayo (SR/Santa Cruz, Aruba) finished 2-4 with a walk and a run batted in.Jake Womack finished 1-3 with a double, two walks, and a run scored. Payton Miller (FR/Yukon, OK) got the start on the mound for the Drovers and pitched very well in 6.2 innings of work. Miller allowed just one earned run, while striking out six batters.Brett Lorah (SR/Elgin, OK) tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, and he struck out one batter. Hagen Earls (JR/Summerfield, OK) allowed one earned run and struck out two batters in 1.0 inning. Adam Day (SO/Glen Rose, AR) allowed a pair of runs in 0.2 innings, and Jack Junker (JR/Bandera, TX) recorded the final out for the Drovers.WHAT'S NEXT?The Drovers are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, March 3, when the Drovers will host the conference-opener against Southwestern Christian University.
