[Baseball] Baseball Defeats OLLU in First Round Of RRAC Tournament

Sterlington, LA – The Texas A&M-Texarkana baseball team opened up the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament with a 7-6 upset victory over 3rdseed Our Lady of The Lake University (30-23).  TAMUT (33-22) will return to action at 6PM tomorrow versus #2 LSU-Alexandria. Jordan Izzo (4-1) earned the win on the hill for the Eagles.  Izzo went 6 innings scattering six hits on 6 runs (5) earned.  The righty didn't allow a hit through the first three innings of play but was touched for four runs in the 4th. TAMUT answered in the 5thputting up a four spot of their own.  After a Nicholas Tamez leadoff walk, Hunter Reid singled to put two on.  An error by the Saints third baseman allowed Tamez to score the Eagles first run of the game.  With one out, Wyatt Stavinoha blasted the 0-0 offering over the left field fence to put the Eagles within one at 5-4 going into the 6th. In the 6th, the Eagles once again found a way, scoring three more runs to put them on top for good.  Ryan Peterson drew a bases loaded RBI walk as TAMUT plated two more runs on an OLLU error. The Saints scratched a single run across in the bottom half of the inning for what would be a final of 7-6. The TAMUT bullpen was lights out as Trevor Stone, Michael Passariello, Sean Townsend pitched an inning apiece, not allowing a single hit while combining to strike out 4.  Townsend picked up the save for the winners. Reid and Kyle McMullen each had two hits while Giancarlo Mijares, Brandon Riley, Mike Williams, and Tamez all contributed singles.
