Furious Rally, Lights-Out Bullpen Performances Fall Short Versus Portland

San Diego baseball (14-17-1, 7-6 WCC) on Friday night pulled ahead for an early lead after erasing a four-run deficit but could not hang on to secure the victory, dropping a close 8-7 decision to Portland (18-15, 8-5 WCC) at Fowler Park. After the Pilots struck first for four runs in the top of the first inning, the Toreros provided an instant answer, hitting back with five runs in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly from Angelo Peraza, a RBI single from Jack Gurevitch and a towering two-run homer from Will Worthington to take a 5-4 lead.
