Knights Escape Griffins' Grasp in Extra Inning

Aston, Pa. – (4/14/2023) – After trailing Neumann University(10-15, 1-6) by a five-run deficit, Gwynedd Mercy University (13-13, 3-7) got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning (5-1), trimmed with a run in the seventh (5-2), and seized a two-run lead with a five-run eighth (7-5). Unfortunately, the Griffins could not secure the game in regulation, nor extra innings as the Knights tied the contest with two runs in the top of the ninth (7-7) and another in the tenth; 8-7. Senior second baseman Jake Martell (Levittown, Pa.) was a spark plug for the Griffins; the lead-off man was 4-for-6 with two runs and four stolen bases. Freshman Ryan Kasper (Levittown, Pa.) was brilliant out of the bullpen, calming Neumann University in the middle innings of the affair with three scoreless innings; 3.0 IP, 3H, 2BB, 2K.
