Night Hawks Searching for Wins Against Barons

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team is in need of a pair of wins, as the Night Hawks will host Brewton-Parker College Tuesday for its final, non-conference doubleheader of 2021.

TU (17-20, 6-9 TSC) is ready to get back to its winning ways after a setback to #11 Middle Georgia State.  One silver lining from Tuesday's game was the Night Hawks' lone score, a solo blast from Freshman Luis Torres for his first NAIA Home Run.  Since the series against St. Thomas, Torres has been on a tear, batting .611 while averaging 1.2 RBIs in the last five contests.

On the mound, Redshirt Senior Patrick Haley (2-5) has averaged a 4.16 ERA in his last three appearances, averaging under three earned runs and just under seven strikeouts a game.

The Barons (16-22, 2-10 SSAC) have been in a funk since March 25th, dropping 10 of its last 11 games.  The Mount Vernon, Ga. based team has been fortunate to have a player that can be versatile in any position on the field.  Not very often does a team possess a player who can both hit and pitch, and usually it is something that is seen more in softball.

For BPC, however, not only does this player hit and pitch, but he excels in each group.  Benjamin Harris (5-5) leads the team in nearly every category, hitting .336 with 31 RBIs as a regular batter while holding a 2.71 ERA, giving up just over four hits and recording 9.63 strikeouts a game.  As a result, Harris holds an opposing batting average of .187, ranked 22nd-best in NAIA.

Thomas leads the overall series against Brewton Parker 20-10, with TU taking seven of the previous eight contests.

First pitch at Varnedoe Stadium is set for 3 p.m.  Fans can follow the live action by accessing the links below:
