Panthers Swept: Drop Pair to Golden Eagles

The Panthers looked to bounce back from yesterday's loss against the Spalding Golden Eagles. Nathan Wood made his second start of the season and worked hard to keep the Eagles off balance. Both teams picked up a lone hit in the first, the Panthers' coming off the bat of Mikey Coyne, but were able to plate a run.  Wood worked quickly in the second going one two three. The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the second with two singles of the bat of Ryan Eisenauer and Nathan Wood.  Will Adler laid down the sacrifice bunt and moved both runners into scoring position. The Eagles pitching worked out of the jam striking out the next two Panther hitters.  Both teams stranded a runner in the third. Ryan Eisenauer led off the home half of the fourth, followed by two quick outs. Chris Strong worked the count and drew a walk. Ben Kearney did the same to load the bases with two outs. Jack Adler and Mikey Coyne both were hit by pitches and the Panthers took a 2-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, a leadoff walk was thrown out trying to steal second by Eisenauer. As Wood struggled to find his command, he walked two more, got an out on a fielder's choice before walking the bases loaded.  He got the Eagles three hole to fly out and keep the 2-0 lead. The Panthers stretched the lead to three as Stephen Strong hit his first home run of the season. The Eagles cracked the scoreboard in the sixth scoring two runs on three hits and cut the lead to one. The Eagles scored three in the seventh to take the lead. Stephen Strong walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh and Nathan Wood put the ball in play to score him. Chris Strong threw the eighth and ninth and the Panthers were unable to score dropping game one.
