[Baseball] Baron's Win Series Against Marian University

Mount Vernon, GA —  The Barons took on Marian University this weekend in a three-game series ending in a 2-1 split; game one won 13-3, game two won 5-4, and game three lost 12-7.  It was a strong offensive start with hits up and down the lineup, but some highlighted performances go to Matt Collins going 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a homerun, Zach Wilson going 2 for 4 with 2 homeruns, Taz Worrell (JR/Lake Butler) going 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Ben Harris going 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a homerun.  Trey Jones (JR/Baxley) would pitch the complete 7 innings with 8 strikeouts and only giving up 6 hits.  In game two, it was a battle defensively as neither pitcher would give up a run until the 8th inning.  Ben Harris would throw 8 innings only giving up one run with 13 strikeouts and would be relieved by Adrian Comas (SR/Tampa) and then Tyrus Cook (FR/Lake Butler, FL) would come in to finish the game with only one hit and 3 strikeouts.  Matt Collins would hit a double that brought Ben Harris home to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th. When Marian put up 3 runs in the top of the 9th, the Barons answered back; with Malik Germany (FR/Grovetown)'s bunt, Mauri Miller (FR/Lilburn)'s walk, and Taz Worrell's single, the bases were loaded.  With two walks and a hit by pitch the Barons were able to tie it up and Jason Delora (JR/Buford)'s single up the middle would score the winning run as the Barons walked it off in the 9th.  Game three was not the outcome they set out for as they ended up losing 12-7.  The Barons outhit Marian but just could not get the hits at the right time to put runs on the board.  Taz Worrell would go 3 for 5, Ben Harris would go 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Malik Germany would go 2 for 4.  Zach Wilson would hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th and finished the day going 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs.  Charles Dopson (SO/Mcrae) would start on the mound going 6 innings only giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs.  Adrian Comas would come in to pitch an inning, as well as appearances by Austin Visocchi, Mackenzie McDowell (FR/Thomasville), and Carson Mason (FR/Savannah).  The Barons will travel away for their next game to Reinhardt University on Tuesday March 2nd.  written by: Sadie Rusteika
