[Baseball] Baseball Brings in 18 Recruits for 2019-20 Season

The Brescia baseball team brought in 18 recruits for the upcoming season."I'm very pleased with this recruiting class we have brought together. This group of incoming recruits have everything we need to take the next steps in growing the baseball program. Good character is the most important quality we look for when recruiting and I can say with confidence that this group has the makeup to be great in every aspect of being a student-athlete. From the classroom to the baseball field, expectations are high for these young men and I believe they are up to the task," said Head Coach Jon Herbig. The Bearcats look to improve on their 12-32 record from last season, which saw the team miss out on qualifying for the River States Conference Championship tournament."Transfers Carlos Rivera (Southeastern Illinois College, Canovanas Puerto Rico) and John Benevolent (University of Montevallo, Lake Mary, Fla.) will turn some heads and provide some experienced upper-classman leadership," said Herbig.Herbig went on to say, "Catchers Brock Cleary (Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Ky.), Matthew Bennett (Mt. Hood, Portland, Ore.), and Shom Berry (North Daviess Jr-Sr HS, Plainville, Ind.) give us added depth and great options behind the plate. Thomas Clark (Apollo HS, Owensboro, Ky.) and Hunter Wright (Apollo HS, Owensboro, KY.) are a couple local boys to definitely keep an eye on as they both have the versatility to pitch as well as play the field.""Shade Anderson (Watertown HS, Lebanon, Tenn.), Patrick Kijinski (Spencer County HS, Taylorsville, Ky.), Matthew Haines (Central Christian College, Colorado Springs, Colo.), Eugene Michel III (Central Christian College, Deer Park, Texas), Peyton Flatt (Watertown HS, Lebanon, Tenn.), and Christian Sanderson (Blackman HS, Murfreesboro, Tenn.) are all very talented players who could fit into multiple roles."The middle-infield will be deeper with the additions of Justin Capps (McLean County HS, Sacramento, Ky.), Christopher Dawson (South Spencer HS, Rockport, Ind), and Antonio Ramos (Canterbury School of Florida, St. Petersburg, Fla.). Devin McHugh (Frontier CC, Gentryville, Ind.) and Edwin Seagraves (Harpeth HS, Kingston Springs, Tenn.) will expand and energize our pitching staff even further," said Herbig"I look forward to working with this group and seeing the way they mesh with our returning guys. This will definitely be a team worth coming out to watch," said Herbig. The Bearcats start their season on the road on January 31st against Bethel University. Follow the Brescia baseball team on Twitter at @BresciaBaseball to keep up to date with the program.
