[Baseball] Baseball Hits Four Home Runs; Sweeps Hastings

Doane Baseball began a four-game weekend series with Hastings on Saturday as the Tigers played host to the Broncos in a doubleheader. The teams will conclude the series with two games on Sunday at Hastings. Doane opened with a 10-3 victory in game one and followed with a 13-2 win in seven innings in game two. Game OneDoane jumped out early on and built an 8-0 lead before the Broncos were able to get on the board. Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning with a solo home run to open the frame. Doane added four in the 2nd inning, capped by a two-run triple by Theiler in which he scored on a throwing error.The Tigers added to the lead in the 4th inning on a 3-run home run by Talon Little (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) to go up by eight runs. The Broncos were able to break through in the 5th inning with three runs on one hit. A two-run double was the big hit in the inning for the Broncos. Doane came back with two runs in the 6th inning as the Tigers had two doubles in the inning.Travis Cowan (JR/Lakewood, Colo.) picked up the victory (3-2) as he went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Julian Vargas (FR/Denver, Colo.) threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing a walk and striking out two.At the plate, Doane had eight hits and drew five walks. Theiler was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three driven in. Joe Osborn (FR/Hickman, Neb.) added two hits in the game. Little matched Theiler with a team-high three RBIs in the game. Game TwoThe Tiger bats came out swinging again in game two as they scored in five of the six innings the team batted in. After a scoreless 1st inning, Doane plated a run in the 2nd on a RBI-single by Jack Tillman (SO/Omaha, Neb.). Little doubled in the 3rd to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.Hastings posted single runs in the 4th and 5th innings, however, Doane plated four runs in each of those innings as well to take a 10-2 lead. In the 4th, the Tigers executed a double steal as Luke LaChance (FR/Littleton, Colo.) stole home. Jaryn Nakamoto (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) hit his first career home run, a two-run blast, to cap the scoring in the 4th. Theiler plated two runs in the 5th with a single and came around to score on a home run by Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.).Tillman plated a run in the 6th with White driving in two as the Tigers pushed their lead past the 10-run threshold. The mercy rule came into effect in the 7th inning as Doane shut the door on the Broncos.Offensively, Doane finished the game with 13 hits and drew five walks. White went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five driven in. Tillman was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and LaChance scored three runs as the courtesy runner for the Tiger catcher. Theiler, Osborn, and Nakamoto had two hits apiece.Aaron Forrest (FR/Peoria, Ariz.) started for Doane and went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Jackson Stensgard (SO/Maricopa, Ariz.) threw 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
