[Baseball] Baseball Opens with Statesmen Split

Doane Baseball opened the 2020 season on Saturday with a doubleheader against William Penn University. The Tigers dropped the opener, 13-3, before taking game two, 7-6. WPU improved to 6-3 on the year with Doane standing at 1-1 after their first day.In game one, Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) led the TIgers at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with a run scored and a RBI. Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) added a hit and two RBIs in the game.White took the loss on the mound, going 3.0 innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) with five strikeouts.The second game saw the Tigers jump out to a 6-2 lead before the Statesmen scored four runs in the 5th inning to tie the game. Doane pushed a run across in the 6th inning on a RBI-single by Talon Little (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) to regain the lead and post the win.Little led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs. He hit a two-run home run in the 1st inning to give the Tigers their first home run of the season. Joe Osborn (FR/Hickman, Neb.) added a three-hit game and scored three runs while Aaron Mason (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Theiler had two hits apiece.Travis Cowan (JR/Lakewood, Colo.) drew the start, going 4.1 innings and allowed four runs with four strikeouts. Brady McMurray (SR/Odell, Neb.) picked up the win, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.Doane and William Penn will play another doubleheader on Sunday in Lincoln.
