[Baseball] Baseball Sets Single-Game Home Run Record

Doane Baseball traveled to Yankton, S.D., on Friday for a doubleheader with the Lancers of Mount Marty. The Tigers used the long ball in game one, breaking a school record, to post a 13-3 win. Mount Marty scored all their runs with two outs in game two as they posted an 8-4 win over the Tigers. Game OneDoane had a school-record six home runs to carry them to a 10-run victory in the opener. Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) and Joe Osborn (FR/Hickman, Neb.) hit two apiece in the game as the Tigers had a home run in six of the seven innings played.In the 1st inning, Talon Little (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) hit a two-run home run to give Doane the early lead. The Tigers added five runs in the 2nd inning to take a 7-0 lead. Theiler hit a three-run home run to start the scoring. Osborn added a RBI-double and Jaryn Nakamoto (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) had a sacrifice fly to plate the final two runs of the inning.Doane added single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Theiler hit his second home run of the game in the 3rd inning and Osborn hit his first to open the 4th inning and hit his second home run with two outs in the 5th.Mount Marty came back in the bottom of the 5th with two solo home runs and after holding Doane scoreless in the 6th, the Lancers hit their third home run of the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the 6th.The Tigers took a 10-3 lead into the 7th inning and Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) added to the lead with a leadoff home run. Nakamoto and Luke LaChance (FR/Littleton, Colo.) added a RBI-single each to push Doane's lead to 13-3.Kyler Beekman (FR/Elkhorn, Neb.) threw 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out three. Julian Vargas (FR/Denver, Colo.) threw the final inning, allowing one hit.At the plate, Doane finished the game with a season-high 20 hits as each starter had at least one with five players having three apiece. Theiler was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs. White went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Little was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs while Osborn was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. LaChance was 3-for-5 with a run scored and one driven in. Game TwoDoane started the scoring in game two with a home run but it would be the Lancers who would hit three in the game and score all eight runs with two outs in the innings they scored.In the 3rd inning, Nate Mensik (FR/Pleasant Dale, Neb.) put the Tigers on the board with a solo home run. Mount Marty took the lead in the 4th inning as they scored three runs. The Lancers had a two-out RBI-single followed by a two-run home run. In the 5th, a walk with two outs was followed by a two-run home run.Doane cut into the lead by plating three runs in the 6th to trim the deficit to one run, 5-4. Osborn drew a bases-loaded walk and Nakamoto added an RBI-single. The Lancers turned a double play as the third run of the inning scored. Mount Marty extended their lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th and scored the final run with a two-out double in the 8th.Thaniel Trumper (FR/Fort Collins, Colo.) made his first start and allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out six batters. Christian McCown (JR/Diller, Neb.) allowed two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings, striking out three. Evan Mason (FR/Aurora, Colo.) threw the final inning, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.Seven players accounted for the Tigers' seven hits in the game.
