[Baseball] Baseball Splits with Saint Thomas

Doane Baseball opened their Spring Break road swing on Friday with a pair of games in Houston, Texas, against Saint Thomas. The Tigers saw the lead slip away in game one as they fell by a score of 9-4. Doane rebounded with a 9-2 victory in game two for the split on day one of the four-game series.In the opener, Doane took a 3-0 lead after four innings by plating two runs in the 3rd and one in the 4th. Talon Little (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) scored on a wild pitch followed by Joe Osborn (FR/Hickman, Neb.) scoring on a single by Aaron Mason (SR/Omaha, Neb.) in the 3rd. Jack Tillman (SO/Omaha, Neb.) opened the 4th with a double and scored on a wild pitch.Saint Thomas tied the game in the 5th inning with three runs on three hits and two Doane errors. In the 6th, the Celts scored six runs on two hits, five hit batters, a walk and a Doane error.Jaryn Nakamoto (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) singled in the 7th to plate Osborn for the final run of the game. He led the Tigers with three hits in the game. Osborn scored two of the team's four runs.In the second game of the day, Doane scored five runs in the first inning. The scoring started with a Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) double to plate Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) from first base. Osborn picked up a sacrifice fly followed by a RBI-single by Nakamoto. A balk and a Tillman RBI-single plated the final two runs of the inning.In the 3rd inning, Osborn opened with a double and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Brett Meyer (FR/Seward, Neb.). Saint Thomas scored twice in the bottom of the inning, leaving the Tigers in front 6-2. In the 4th, Theiler opened with a walk and stole second base. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Mason. Doane added two runs in the 5th as Luke LaChance (FR/Littleton, Colo.) scored on a passed ball and Meyer scored on an error.White went 2-for-2 in the game, raising his NAIA-leading batting average to .667 on the season. He also threw a complete game on the mound for the Tigers, striking out eight batters in 7.0 innings of work.Doane and Saint Thomas will play two more games on Saturday in Houston to wrap up the four-game series.
