[Baseball] Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Mayville State

Doane Baseball picked up a doubleheader sweep on Saturday over Mayville State (N.D.). The games were played at Den Hartog Field in Lincoln. The Tigers took the opener, 2-1, and the second game, 9-2.In game one, Travis Cowan (JR/Lakewood, Colo.) took the ball on the hill and went 5.0 innings. He allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts to earn the win. Staley Gilmore (SR/Bellingham, Wash.) threw 1.0 inning with Brady McMurray (SR/Odell, Neb.) picking up the save with 1.0 inning of work and two strikeouts.At the plate, Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) collected two hits including his second home run of the season. Jaryn Nakamoto (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) added a RBI-single in the game as the Tigers finished with seven hits.The second game saw Mayville State strike first with a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning by Skyler Forst. Doane bounced right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) had a two-run single followed by a RBI-double by White. Talon Little (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) capped the scoring with a two-run home run.Doane added three runs in the 4th inning behind a RBI-single by White and a two-run double to Joe Osborn (FR/Hickman, Neb.). In the 6th inning, Bob Mercier (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) hit a solo blast to give the Tigers a 9-1 lead. The Comets added a solo home run by Brantt Wood in the 7th.White started on the mound, going 4.0 innings and allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts. Gilmore picked up the 3.0 inning save, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.Doane and Mayville State will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday at 12 PM in Crete.
