[Baseball] Brewton-Parker College Opens Season with Series Sweep
Mount Vernon, GA — In the first set of competitions for the 2021 Baseball season, the Brewton-Parker Barons, opened where the COVID season left off, against Bluefield College. The Barons won game one 7-6, game 2 6-4, and won in the third game 12-3. The Barons struggled to find a rythym in game one, struggling offensively until late. Austin Vissochi started on the mound and pitched for 2.1 innings, conceeding 5 hits and 4 runs. Tyrus Cook (FR/Lake Butler, FL) took over with a strong showing only giving up 1 run in 2.2 innings. Adrian Comas (SR/Tampa) pitched one inning with two strikeouts. Lastly Charles Dopson (SO/Mcrae) earned the win for the Barons allowing 1 hit with two strikeouts. The Barons rallied late scoring 7 runs in the final two innings of play, leading offensively were Eduardo Castillo and Taz Worrell (JR/Lake Butler), each with 3 RBI's.In game two, the Barons took the lead and never looked back winning with a final score of 6-4. Ben Harris started the game on the mound, pitching 5 innings with 9 strikeouts, giving up one earned run. Tyrus Cook struggled from the mound, only pitching one-third inning, giving up two hits and a run. Trey Jones (JR/Baxley) closed out the game with 4 striekouts in 5 at bats. Eduardo Castillo continued to lead the Barons offensively with 2 hits and 3 RBI's. Ben Harris also provided 2 RBI's in four at bats.With the series secured, the Barons took the initiative and closed out the series with another win 12-3. Trey Jones struggled to match his prior games work, in one and a third innings work, he gave up two runs and four walks. Adrian Comas came in to secure the game with a strong four and two thirds innings work. Facing 16 batters, Comas struck 7 out and only conceeded 1 run. The game was closed out by Mackenzie McDowell (FR/Thomasville) with an uneventful inning. Eduardo Castillo continued his excellent series at the plate, adding 3 more RBI's with 3 hits and 1 run himself. Phillip Collins (JR/McDonough) also added 3 RBI's with 3 hits and 2 runs. The Baron's next series is this weekend, at home, starting on Friday at 3:00pm against Rio Grande.
