[Baseball] Evangels Rally to Knock Off Baseball

Doane Baseball finished their Spring Break trip on Monday with a match-up against Mid-America Christian (Okla.). After Doane jumped out to the lead, the Evangels battled back to take a 15-5 win over the Tigers. MACU moves to 21-8 on the season while Doane fell to 6-7.The scoring opened in the 1st as Doane's Bob Mercier (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) hit a two-out, two-run home run for the early lead. Brett Meyer (FR/Seward, Neb.) hit his first collegiate home run in the 2nd inning to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Jaryn Nakamoto (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) singled to plate Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) in the 3rd and Luke LaChance (FR/Littleton, Colo.) scored on a throwing error in the 4th as Doane led 5-0 after three and a half innings of play.Mid-America Christian plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the 4th and then took the lead in the 5th by scoring five runs. The 6th inning saw the Evangels score seven runs on one hit to take a 13-5 lead. They plated two runs in the 7th to end the game.Doane finished with nine hits in the game, two apiece from Nakamoto and Meyer. Mercier led the team with two RBIs while five different players crossed the plate. Kellan Voggesser (FR/Fort Collins, Colo.) started on the hill for the Tigers and went 4.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts. MACU had 10 hits in the game but drew 13 walks.Next up is conference play for the Tigers as Doane is scheduled to take on Northwestern to open GPAC action. First pitch on March 14 is 1:00 PM in Orange City, Iowa.
