[Baseball] Four Game Series with Cumberland University Ends in a Split

Mount Vernon, GA — The Barons had a weekend full of baseball as they hosted Cumberland University in a 4-game series.  They lost game one 14-7, won game two 6-0, won game three 5-0, and lost game four 7-0.  Game one started off strong for both teams but Cumberland out-hit the Barons.  Adrian Comas (SR/Tampa) started on the mound for the Barons, followed by Austin Visocchi (JR/Blue Ridge), and Charles Dopson (SO/Mcrae) finished strong with 5.2 innings pitched with 6 strikeouts.  At the plate, Ben Harris would go 3 for 4 with a solo homerun, and Austin Mealor (FR/Guyton) and Jordan Rahn (FR/Rincon) would add 2 RBI's each.  In game two, the Barons had Ben Harris start and finish on the mound.  He pitched an outstanding 7 innings with 14 strikeouts and only one hit allowed.  Not only did he succeed on the mound, but he also went 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. Offensively the game started off slow, but a 4-run homerun hit by Jackson Smith (SO/Bartow) in the third inning would start things rolling for the Barons.  Malik Germany (FR/Grovetown) went 2 for 2 at the plate scoring twice and Taz Worrel would also contribute an RBI to build on the Barons' lead.  In game three, Trey Jones (JR/Baxley) pitched the full 7 inning shutout with nine strikeouts and allowing only three hits.  The low scoring game was led by Ben Harris' performance, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, as well as RBI's from Matt Collins, Jackson Smith, and Jordan Rahn.  Contributing to the Barons win were doubles by both Ben Harris and Mauri Miller (FR/Lilburn) and, as a team, drawing 6 walks.  Game four did not go as well for the Barons as they fall to Cumberland in the final game of the series.  Ty Cook started on the mound going 4 innings only giving up 2 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts.  Mackenzie Dowell started the fifth inning, followed by Roberto Urena (SO/Loganville), and Jacob Johnson (JR/Griffin).  It was a tough day offensively for the Barons as the only hits came from Mauri Miller, who went 1 for 3, and Taz Worrell (JR/Lake Butler), who went 2 for 3.  The Barons next game will be against Middle Georgia State University on February 16.  written by: Sadie Rusteika
