[Baseball] McMurray Pitches Baseball to Split in Texas

Doane Baseball closed out their four-game set with a split of action on Saturday against Saint Thomas in Texas. The Tigers dropped the opener, 8-7 on a walk-off, but battled back to take the second game, 2-1.In the opener, Doane jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the middle of the 2nd inning and a 5-2 lead through four innings. The bottom of the 5th saw the Celts push five runs across, taking the lead by scoring their final three runs of the inning on two Doane errors.Doane fought back to tie the game in the 7th inning on a two-out, two-run home run by Nate Mensik (FR/Pleasant Dale, Neb.), his first collegiate home run. However, in the bottom of the 7th with two outs recorded, Saint Thomas picked up three consecutive hits to push the winning run across the plate.The second game was a pitcher's duel with Tiger starter Brady McMurray (SR/Odell, Neb.) going the distance to earn the victory. He limited the Celts to four hits and one unearned run in 7.0 innings of work while striking out six.Offensively in the second game, Doane was also limited to four hits. Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) recorded two hits, a double and a triple, and crossed the plate for one of the Tigers' runs as he crossed on a Bob Mercier (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) two-out single in the 6th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Tucker Catlett (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) scored in the third, crossing the plate with an unearned run.After a day off, the Tigers make their way north to Oklahoma for their final game of Spring Break as they take on Mid America Christian on Monday, March 9, at 1 PM.
