[Baseball] Trumper Named NCBWA Rookie of the Week

Doane pitcher Thaniel Trumper (FR/Fort Collins, Colo.) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Rookie of the Week after his performance this past weekend for the Tigers. He is the first Doane baseball player to receive one of the weekly honors awarded by the NCBWA.Trumper has gotten off to a quick start in his freshman year and added to his efforts this past weekend against William Penn (Iowa). In two games against the Statesmen, the Tiger closer was able to pick up a pair of saves while pitching 3.1 innings. He struck out four batters on the week and did not allow a hit.On the year, Trumper is 4-for-4 in save opportunities and ranks fourth in the NAIA in saves. He has recorded 19 strikeouts in 11.1 innings and has held opponents to a .186 batting average. His four saves on the year sits in a tie for ninth on the Doane record books for saves in a season. The single-season mark for saves is nine.
