[Baseball] Wisner Ties Wins Record; Baseball to Play in Championship Game

Doane Baseball punched their ticket to nationals on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Jamestown in the championship game of the Doane Bracket in the GPAC Baseball Tournament. The Tigers will receive the conference's second bid to nationals, their first trip since 2014, following a win by Concordia in the Bulldogs' bracket. Doane and Concordia will play for the conference tournament title on Tuesday at 6 PM with both teams heading to nationals the following week. The scoring on Saturday started for Doane as they took advantage of two 1st inning Jamestown errors and were able to plate Lukas White (SO/Castaic, Calif.) for a run to go in front, 1-0. Doane was the visiting team in the game for the first time in the tournament. Jamestown nearly took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Lincoln Trujillo blasted a ball down the left field line that was initially ruled a two-run home run but after the umpires came together to discuss the play, it was ruled a foul ball. Trujillo would strike out to end the inning and keep Doane in front. The Jimmies were able to tie the game in the 3rd inning as a leadoff walk to Chase Hacker would prove costly for Doane. Hacker stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on an error. After two scoreless innings, Doane came up in the 6th inning and alternated outs and base hits through the first two batters. With two runners on base and two outs, Brett Meyer (FR/Seward, Neb.) delivered a go-ahead RBI-single to plate Aaron Mason (SR/Omaha, Neb.). Tanner Black (FR/Elkhorn, Neb.) was in the game as the courtesy runner for Tucker Catlett (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) and moved from first to third base on the Meyer hit. The throw from right field went to third base to try and get Black but it was errant and Black was able to head to home plate for an additional run.Jordan Wisner (JR/Anaheim Hills, Calif.) drew the start and stifled the Jamestown hitters over 7.0 innings of work. He allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six. In picking up the win, his 9th victory of the season, Wisner tied the school record for wins in a season.Kyler Beekman (FR/Elkhorn, Neb.) relieved Wisner in the 8th inning and threw two scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season. He struck out two batters and allowed one hit.Doane finished the game offensively with seven hits, two from Catlett. Meyer had the team's only RBI as two runs scored on errors.
