Devils swept by Dragons

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Fredonia State baseball team dropped a pair of games at Cortland, 18-1 and 13-7, on Friday.

Game 1
After two scoreless innings, the Cortland bats broke out for seven runs in the third as they would cruise to the victory. Four Fredonia State pitchers combined in the seven-inning affair —  Morgan Zientara, David Adams, Christian Brown, and Cade Neubauer. Zientara (2-3) started took the loss.

Brady Ventura, Christian Pagano, and Tyler Curtis each had a hit, with Tucker Schwab collecting an RBI with a ground out.

Game 2
The Devils fared better offensively in Game 2, with four players collecting two hits each. Garrett Stuckey had two hits, including his fifth homerun of the year. Jake Dunstan, Kyle Tedford, and Christian Pagano each had two hits, and Ethan Behnke drove in two and doubled.

Nick Syposs took the loss on the mound, going five innings and giving up seven runs. Joe Tobia threw the final four innings, giving up four earned runs. The duo did combine to strike out 12 Red Dragon batters — seven by Syposs and five for Tobia.

Cortland has earned the regular-season conference title, improving to 27-10-1 and 15-2 in the SUNYAC. 

The Devils (13-22 / 3-14 SUYNAC) wrap up the season on Saturday with game time slated for 10 a.m. There will be no webcast available for tomorrow's game in Cortland.
