Devils walked off by Pioneers

ALFRED, N.Y. — The Fredonia State baseball team tied the game in the top of the ninth, but would see the Alfred State Pioneers score the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning to take a 12-11 victory on Wednesday. The Devils had claimed four walk-off wins this year, and had the tables turned on them for the first time this season.

Christian Pagano and Kyle Tedford both had three hits. Riley Cardinali had two hits, and Alex Gannon drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double.

The Devils went with Johnny Wholestaff on the mound, using nine different pitchers in the nine-inning affair. Derrick Walters struck out three in his scoreless inning of work. Cade Neubauer and Joe Tobia also threw scoreless innings.

The Devils' Bryce Firkins tied the game in the top of the ninth with a squeeze bunt. 

In the bottom of the inning, a one-out error put a runner at second base. After a strikeout and intentional walk, Tyler Korsky singled in the winning run with his third hit of the afternoon.

Nate O'Brochta took the tough-luck loss, entering the ninth and giving up an unearned run. 

Alfred State outhit the Devils, 14-13. Chris Baldwin vultured the win, throwing 2/3 of an inning, finishing the top of the ninth for the Pioneers. They improve to 14-17

Fredonia State falls to 14-24.
