Hilltoppers Battle Back for Series Opening Split with Wheeling
The West Liberty University baseball team regrouped following a 15-1 loss to Wheeling in game one of Friday's MEC doubleheader at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex as they held off the Cardinals for a 7-6 win in game two for the split. Following a solo homerun by James Salvatori to tie the single-season program record, WU plated four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good and they broke the game open with nine more in the third to earn the series-opening win. In the second game, the Hilltopper bats came to life as 2-run homeruns by Ryan Talbert and Garrett Scott powered the offense and Brady Harmon shut down the Wheeling rally with a game-ending strikeout as the tying run stood on second base.
